Aug. 6—Bryce Zimmerman and Jack Zioze led the field by one stroke after the opening day of the New Hampshire Stroke Play Championship on Tuesday at Bretwood Golf Course in Keene.
Starting their rounds on Bretwood South’s 10th hole, Zimmerman, a 21-year-old from Nashua, and Zioze, a 21-year-old from Rye, each shot a 5-under par 67.
The 54-hole stroke-play tournament will trim the field to the low 40 players and ties on Wednesday. The final round is scheduled for Thursday.
Zimmerman, a Nashua CC member, logged five birdies and two bogeys alongside an eagle on the par-5 first hole on Tuesday.
“I love this place. I usually tend to play well here,” Zimmerman told the NHGA. “If I can just get my pace on some of my longer putts, it’ll be a fun rest of the week.”
An Abenaqui CC member, Zioze had six birdies along with his bogey on the par-4 15th hole.
Zioze told the NHGA that he entered the tournament looking to finish in the top 15 in order to earn one of the exemptions into next year’s New Hampshire Amateur Championship.
