The 123rd playing of the Wisconsin State Amateur has a third different leader after three rounds at The Legend at Merrill Hills in Waukesha after Madison’s Garrett Jones shot a 2-under 69 on Wednesday to move into a tie with Sheboygan’s Drake Wilcox and second-round leader Joe DuChateau at 2-under 211 for the tournament.
The trio hold a one-shot advantage over first-round leader Ty Kretz.
Jones has been steady throughout, shooting rounds of 71-71-69 over three days.
DuChateau (Fond du Lac) began the day with a four-shot advantage over Wilcox but backed up out of a singular place in the lead after shooting a 4-over 75.
Conversely, Kretz rebounded from a rough second round to shoot a 2-under 69 to get back into the tournament at 1-under 212.
With such wild swings at the top of the leaderboard, Franklin’s Ben Skogen played his way into the tournament with the best round of the day, firing a 4-under 67. He is tied with Hudson’s Bennett Swavely at 1-over 214, four shots off the lead.
The top 10 was rounded out with Madison’s Ross Thomson, Middleton’s Jacob Beckman and Kenosha’s Cameron Huss (4-over) tied for seventh and Hartland’s Cody Guetzke (5-over) alone in 10th.
