We asked for your views on what Liverpool should do with their star players, with Anfield favourites Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold all in the final year of their contracts.
Here are some of your thoughts:
Kenan: I think they should cash in on Salah – with Saudi interest they are guaranteed good money even when taking his age into consideration. I think they should definitely look to extend Van Dijk’s contract – he is still immensely important for the club. The main priority should be a huge deal for Alexander-Arnold – his quality is almost unmatched in England.
Keir: They have got to keep Trent and Virgil, they are utterly irreplaceable. I love Salah, and he has been world class throughout, but he feels like the player that is the easiest to replace. That said, I would also re-sign him.
Paul: I think it all comes down to the three players and whether they want to be part of the new regime or not. They are all great players but none of them are bigger than the club. If they wish to go, get large fees for them and don’t allow them to leave for nothing next year.
James: The existing squad will not win the league this season. We need to maximise our sales with the old guard now, while they have sale value. Then we can invest in a younger squad with real potential.
Natalie: We need to keep them all! Trent Alexander-Arnold is top of the list but they all have a lot to offer in terms of keeping stability and consistency through this transitional period. Up the Reds!
Jacob: I think we should persuade Trent into a bumper new deal and extend his contract. We should extend Mo’s contract for another year so he doesn’t go on a free next summer, but we should still sell him at that point. Finally, we should sell Virgil this summer if we get in the right replacement. I would like anyone out of Marc Guehi, Riccardo Calafiori or Goncalo Inacio.
