Vote for top Mississippi quarterback entering 2024 MHSAA, MAIS football season


As the 2024 football season, inches closer MSSAA and MAIS football fans can decide on which high school quarterback is the best in Mississippi.

Vote for your choice on Mississippi’s top quarterback entering the season. Fans can vote once per hour per device. The poll closes at noon on Saturday.

Jay Beamon, Cleveland Central: Beamon threw for 2,076 yards with 17 touchdowns last season. Beamon has offers from Jackson State, Tulane and Boston College.

Kendetryon Backstrom, Kemper County: Backstrom threw for 2,071 passing yards with 15 touchdowns on 11 completions. He also had 1,248 rushing yards with 14 touchdowns.

Coleman Carter, Adams County Christian: Carter, a Louisiana commit, helped Adams County win the MAIS Class 5A title while having 2,789 passing yards, 37 touchdowns and 1,226 rushing yards with 14 touchdowns.

Garrison Davis, Holmes County: Davis helped lead Holmes County to a 12-1 record last season while throwing for 2,508 yards and 28 touchdowns. Davis also rushed for 896 yards and nine touchdowns.

Jack Durr, Pearl: Durr threw for 2,361 yards with 17 touchdowns and also had 691 rushing yards with 15 touchdowns last season.

Noah Gillon, Tupelo: Gillon, the three-star recruit according to 247Sports Composite, transferred to Tupelo from Booneville and is set to start for the Green Wave. He recorded 1,786 passing yards with 18 touchdowns last season.

Jevarion Glover, Amanda Elzy: Glover produced 3,047 passing yards and 21 passing touchdowns along with 1,134 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns. Glover has offers from Army, Co-Lin College, Southwest College and Hinds Community College.

Collin Haney, Columbia: Haney helped take Columbia to the MHSAA Class 4A title game, where he had a season total of 139 completions with 2,092 passing yards and 25 touchdowns. He also produced 186 rushing yards with three touchdowns.

Xavier Hunt, Louisville: After an undefeated MHSAA Class 4A title-winning season, Hunt produced 2,040 passing yards with 22 touchdowns and rushed for 234 yards.

Deuce Knight, George County: Knight, a Notre Dame commit, is the highest-rated quarterback in Mississippi’s 2025 class and No. 6 overall in the country. He passed for 1,420 yards with 15 touchdowns in seven games last season.

Kymaurion Lindsey, West Jones: As a freshman, Lindsey passed for 1,056 yards with 10 touchdowns and rushed for 810 yards and 11 touchdowns, helping West Jones to a MHSAA Class 6A title. Lindsey has an offer from UNLV and interest from other Division I schools.

Adarius McDougle, Sebastopol: McDougle rushed for 1,868 yards and 33 touchdowns and completed 35 of 71 pass attempts for 464 yards and six more touchdowns last season. McDougle also won the 2023 MHSAA Class 2A Mr. Football, the only junior to do so.

Nash Morgan, Warren Central: Morgan, who appeared in all of Warren Central’s 12 games, passed for 1,264 yards with eight touchdowns.

Parker Puckett, Jackson Prep: Puckett recorded 2,506 passing yards with 22 touchdowns on 171 completions and 10 rushing touchdowns. He has offers from Mississippi College and Itawamba Community College.

Sladen Shack, Brandon: Shack, who passed for 68 yards on five completions last season, is the expected starter at Brandon. Shack has an offer from Central Arkansas and visits to other Division I schools.

Braden Shettles, New Albany: Shettles threw for 2,176 yards with 24 touchdowns on 124 completions with a 64% completion percentage. Shettles has an offer from UNLV.

KaMario Taylor, Noxubee County: Taylor, a Mississippi State commit and the No. 11 recruit in the state, helped lead Noxubee County to the MHSAA 3A state title game. He threw for 3,282 yards with 45 touchdowns and rushed for 789 yards with 15 touchdowns.

Bryce Warriner, Tri-County Academy: Warriner produced 2,366 passing yards on 163 completions with 26 touchdowns. He also had 108 rushes for 649 yards and 12 touchdowns. Warriner has an offer from East Central College and Coahoma College.

George Wilcox, Leake Academy: The sophomore was second in MAIS in passing yards with 3,098 on 199 completions with 29 touchdowns, averaging 281 passing yards per game.

Braylen Williams, Nettleton: Williams passed for 2,228 yards with 23 touchdowns in 2023. He also rushed for 1,004 yards with 12 touchdowns.

Gavin Wooley, Falkner: Wooley threw for 2,350 yards with 28 touchdowns on 131 completions. He also rushed for 457 yards with five touchdowns.
