Chelsea midfielder Cesare Casadei scored to give Italy the lead against Ireland in a U21 European Championship qualifier in Trieste on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old found his first goal of the season after the Azzurrini survived two dangerous chances for the visitors, as he brilliantly latched onto a cross from Leeds’ Wilfried Gnonto and turned rapidly to send the ball past the goalkeeper.
Casadei had little playing time under coach Enzo Maresca at Chelsea during this start to the season, as he only played two matches in the EFL Cup and the Europa Conference League, while he’s still to make his Premier League debut with the club this campaign.
Despite needing to fight hard for a place in the team, Casadei recently claimed he decided to stay at Chelsea instead of going out on loan.
