The Mike Elko era at Texas A&M has begun, and after inheriting one of the more talented rosters in the country, this team has the potential to contend for a spot in the expanded CFP 12-team playoffs.
This all starts and ends with redshirt quarterback Conner Weigman, who is returning after missing the final eight games of the 2023 season due to a lower-body injury.
After two fall practices, Weigman looks bigger, stronger, and confident, while his release and accuracy has improved after his appearance at the Manning Passing Academy this summer.
After adding nearly 30 players from the transfer portal, A&M’s defense looks borderline elite, especially in the trenches with the addition of for Purdue Edge Nic Scourton and the return of Shemar Stewart.
However, the offensive line, which returns nearly every 2023 starter plus several additions will need to vastly improve under new OL coach Adam Cushing.
To make things even more interesting, Texas A&M will open the season-opening Notre Dame, who comes in at No. 7 in the US LBM Coaches Poll, while the Aggies land at No. 20.
