Steiner wins Masters Tour Points Title

Jul. 22—Zionsville’s Max Steiner carried over a strong spring into a great summer on the golf course this year.

After earning all-state honors and helping Zionsville win the IHSAA State Title in June, Steiner picked up some more hardware Monday, earning the points title for the Indiana Golf Masters Tour.

The Masters Tour is part of the Indiana Junior Golf Series and brings together some of the top juniors in the state.

There are four featured events, including the Masters Tour Championship, which took place Sunday and Monday at Broadmoor Country Club.

Steiner finished second in the final tournament, placing in the top-10 in all four spots.

In round 1, he shot a 70, including a 31 on the back-nine. He finished with six birdies, two bogeys, a double and nine pars. In round 2, he shot a 71 with an eagle, two birdies, a bogey, double and 13 pars.

Steiner also placed seventh at the Southern Masters at Chariot Run, fourth at the Central Masters at The Sagamore and eighth at the Northern Masters at Warren.

His 84 points from the four events bested Kai Warner’s 79.

Mac Myers placed 10th at the Masters Tour Championship with a two-day total of 146 (76-70).

He had three birdies, five bogeys, a double and nine pars in round 1, and came back with five birdies, three bogeys and 10 pars in round two.
