Stanford women remain unbeaten, beats stacked field in Charles Schwab at Colonial

The Stanford women’s golf team hasn’t lost in stroke play (or match play) in almost a year.

The Cardinal came from behind Tuesday to capture the Charles Schwab Women’s Collegiate at Colonial in Fort Worth, Texas, topping a field that included five of the top-10 teams in the country. Top-ranked Stanford shot 3 under in the final round, finishing at even for the tournament, beating Oregon by two shots. Auburn and Wake Forest tied for third at 6 over.

Stanford, the defending national champion, has won all six stroke-play starts this season, and dating to the 2023-24 campaign, it has won nine consecutive stroke-play events. The 2022-23 Stanford team is the only one with more wins in a single season (7), and the Cardinal still have a chance to join the 1995 Arizona State women as the only team to go undefeated in a year.

Megha Ganne shot 3 under in the final round to lead Stanford, while Paula Martin Sampedro carded a 2-under performance Tuesday. Freshman Meja Ortengren finished at 4 under for the tournament, placing solo fourth to lead the Cardinal.

Auburn sophomore Anna Davis, the 2022 Augusta National Women’s Amateur champion, took home medalist honors, finishing at 9-under 201, one shot better than Oregon sophomore Kiara Romero. SMU’s Mackenzie Lee placed third at 5 under.

Oregon finished runner-up for the third time in four spring events. The Ducks won their other start at the Alice and John Wallace Women’s Golf Classic.
