Scottie Scheffler, Ridgewood native, wins Olympic gold medal in men’s golf


Scottie Scheffler can add another title to his already impressive golf resume − Olympic champion.

Scheffler, who was born in Ridgewood, won the gold medal Sunday in the men’s individual golf tournament at the 2024 Olympics in France.

Sheffler, who was raised in Montvale and attended Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Park Ridge before moving to Texas at age 6, shot 62 on Sunday, charging to the top of the leaderboard.

The 28-year-old Scheffler, in his first Olympics, finished at 19 under at Le Golf National to bring home the gold. Tommy Fleetwood of Great Britain finished one shot behind to take the silver and Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama (17 under) won the bronze.
