Penn State football team suspends pair of 2nd-year defensive players

Two Penn State second-year football players have been placed on interim suspension to deal with a personal matter, an athletics department spokesperson confirmed.

Penn State will not have further comment.

Defensive end Jameial Lyons, who’s expected to see significant playing time, and linebacker Kaveion Keys were not at the Nittany Lions’ first preseason practice Wednesday, according to multiple reports.

The 6-5, 251-pound Lyons, who played high school ball at Roman Catholic in Philadelphia, played in eight games last season as a freshman. He made six tackles, including 2.5 for loss and a sack, and a quarterback hurry.

The 6-2, 230-pound Keys, who’s from Varina High in Richmond, Va., played in two games last season and retained four seasons of eligibility.
