Another Ohio State recruit will make his college choice known very soon. Trey McNutt, who is the son of former OSU defensive back Richard McNutt, will announce his decision on July 19 and has the Buckeyes in his top-five. The Bucks are joined by Florida, Oregon, USC, and Texas A&M.
One might think being an Ohio State legacy would be a lock for the Buckeyes and things were looking that way for a while. But after McNutt chose not to take an official visit to Columbus during June, momentum has seemed to shift toward the Ducks.
McNutt is a coveted recruit and not just because of his scarlet and gray roots. He is the No. 1 rated safety in all the land according to 247Sports composite rankings. For Ohio State, Losing yet another in-state kid would be a heartbreaking loss.
If McNutt does choose to go elsewhere, all is not lost. Ohio State does have a commitment from the No. 2 rated safety, Faheem Delane. On top of that, you can be sure that even though he’ll pick a school next Friday, the recruitment will be far from over as the coaching staff will certainly continue to invite the young man to campus to catch some games firsthand in the fall.
