The team of Brandon Grzywacz and Jacob Golliday, both of North Carolina, leads the inaugural Sunnehanna National Four Ball event after two rounds played Monday.
Grzywacz and Golliday shot a 63 in the opening round and a 62 in the second round for a 125 at the par-70 Sunnehanna Country Club course.
Sunnehanna member Nick Biesecker and John Peterson, a former three-time All-American at Louisiana State University and 2011 NCAA Division I men’s golf champion, are three strokes off the lead after shooting 65-63 for a 128.
Peterson, a reinstated amateur, previously played in two Sunnehanna Amateur Tournament for Champions events.
He later placed fourth in the 2012 U.S. Open at Olympic Club, where he aced the par-3 13th hole. His finish earned him invitations to both the Masters and next U.S. Open.
The 88-player, 54-hole tournament will conclude with a third round at 9 a.m. Tuesday. The format is four ball, known as best ball of two.
Scott Shingler and Justin Young tied with Davey Jude and Cam Roam at 129 through two rounds on Monday. Tied for fifth at 130 are Ryan McCarthy and Patrick McCormick, and Bart Mease and Brian Simpson.
Jack Barber and Mike Perchak are seventh at 131, which included a 59 in Monday’s second round. Tug Maude and Lowery Thomas (132) hold the eighth spot, and former Sunnehanna Amateur champion Nathan Smith and Ben Wolfe (133) are ninth.
Five tandems of players are tied for 10th at 134.
