New York Islanders die-hard fan and Barstool talent Frankie Borrelli had the opportunity of a lifetime as he went up against his favorite member of the Blue & Orange, Mathew Barzal, at Sebonack Golf Club in Southhampton, New York, a top-100 course in the world.
In an almost hour-long YouTube video via Fore Play Golf, Barzal, and Borrelli go at it, with chirping and more in what must have been a surreal experience for the Long Island native and son of the famous Frank Borrelli, whose restaurant can be found right near Nassau Coliseum.
Borrelli has quickly become a rising star in the golf media universe. He began his career primarily as a cameraman at Barstool Sports, where he worked behind the scenes with Dave Portnoy and his pizza reviews.
However, Frankie’s fandom and passion for golf soon vaulted him to a more prominent role, creating on-camera golf content for a Barstool, delivering the top names in golf to the fans in a more unique and personal way.
This summer, however, he truly relished the opportunity to blend golf and his favorite professional sports team and player.
“It’s truly a dream come true,” Borrelli told The Hockey News. “From being a fan in the stands to being able to competitively face Barzal on the golf course, it’s really special stuff for me.”
WATCH BARZAL VS BORRELLI:
Our Long Island resident golf analyst and longtime Islanders fan, Joshua Ernst, gloated after watching the video.
“First off, that area, Southampton, is like the Mecca for golf courses on the East Coast,” Ernst told The Hockey News.
“Sebonack, like the other three great courses within a mile, are all links, style courses, and the course developers use natural environment to craft, the course, hence the tall fescue grass.”
Ernst continued to gush, “This course was also designed by Jack Nicklaus — and Matt Barzal is a VERY good golfer!”
