Despite being outplayed for most of the night, Milan held on against Barcelona to down the LaLiga giants on penalties in a preseason friendly.
Scorers: Lewandowski 22′, 58 ; Jović 10′, Pulisic 15′
Despite Barça dominating the ball in the opening 20 minutes, Milan raced out to 2-0 lead in a flash thanks to goals from Luka Jović and Christian Pulisic.
But Barcelona’s possession and pressure would finally tell just minutes later when Robert Lewandowski cut the lead in half.
Youngster Pau Victor continued to make a name for himself after some sterling performances throughout this preseason, providing a superb chipped assist for Lewandowski after the halftime restart to pull the LaLiga giants level in style.
Milan provided little in the way of attacking prowess once the Blaugrana pulled level, and a raft of changes from Paulo Fonseca did little to swing the momentum back in their favour.
Nevertheless, the Serie A outfit held on as Barcelona pressed for a winner in the dying minutes to send the game to penalties, as is customary in preseason friendlies in the United States.
After misses from Ismaël Bennacer and Jules Koundé in the opening round, Milan youngster Lorenzo Torriani stepped up in the late rounds to make a few key saves and win the game for Milan.
Milan will now turn their attention to the opening weekend of Serie A with a clash against Torino, while Barça will take on Monaco in the Joan Gamper Trophy before beginning their LaLiga campaign.
