The Michigan-Ohio State football rivalry garnered the attention of a Daily Show correspondent — Jordan Klepper — during his segment about the Republican National Convention.
Former U.S. President and 2024 Republican nominee Donald Trump named Ohio senator J.D. Vance as his vice president running mate. During his acceptance speech, Vance shouted out growing up in Buckeye State and attending Ohio State, which drew an “OH-IO” chant from the Ohio contingent in the crowd but also boos from the Michigan side and its own chants of “Let’s Go Blue!”

Klepper, born in Kalamazoo, was not feeling any love for the state of Ohio, Ohio State or Vance.
“If you’re wondering why the ‘OH-IO’ chant is O-H-I-O, it’s because it’s the only word people from Ohio can spell,” Klepper said in a clip shared on social media. “Go Blue, you hillbilly (expletive)!”
Klepper did not attend Michigan, instead attending the local Kalamazoo College, about 100 miles from Ann Arbor. Still, in the video, he shows himself wearing maize and blue on the field of Michigan Stadium following the Wolverines’ 42-27 victory over the Buckeyes on Nov. 27, 2021.
