PEORIA — Metamora linebacker Cam Nickel has a final prep season ahead of him, but he also knows where he’ll play college football in the future.
Nickel verbally committed to Western Illinois on Friday night.
The 6-foot-3, 208-pound linebacker led the Mid-Illini Conference last season with 101 tackles, and added five sacks, 15 tackles for loss and an interception.

The all Mid-Illini Conference selection had offers from WIU, Army, Grand Valley State, North Dakota State and others, and was invited for workouts with Purdue, Illinois and Illinois State.
He was declared the top performer at the U.S. Army Bowl earlier this summer, and drew offers after his performance at the Lindenwood Mega Camp, one of the top prospect showcases in the Midwest.
