Louisville football is projected to finish fifth in the ACC this season.
The conference’s projected order of finish was announced Wednesday. The ACC expanded to 17 teams with the addition of California, SMU and Stanford, which are projected to finish 10th, seventh and 17th, respectively.
Florida State was projected to finish first and received 81 first-place votes. Clemson was second and was followed by Miami and N.C. State.
After being projected to finish eighth in the ACC last year, U of L made the league title game for the first time in program history. The Cardinals clinched a spot in the conference championship game after beating Miami on the road, ending the season with a 7-1 conference record.
This year, Louisville’s road back to the ACC championship game includes contests at Virginia, Boston College, Clemson and Stanford. The Cardinals host Miami, Pittsburgh, SMU and Georgia Tech. This is the Cardinals’ 10th year in the ACC, and the team has gone 77-85-1.
Louisville opens ACC action against Georgia Tech on Sept. 21.
