In Saturday’s thrilling clash between Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao, Lamine Yamal marked the start of the season with the opening goal, helping Barcelona secure a 2-1 victory.
The young talent made his mark in the 24th minute, showcasing his potential early on. Although he did not play the full 90 minutes, he was substituted towards the end of the match by Pau Victor, allowing him to enjoy the well-deserved applause from the fans.
Speaking to DAZN (h/t SPORT), Yamal expressed his delight with the result, stating,
“I am very happy with the win. It was crucial to start the season well at home.”
He elaborated on the team’s approach, saying, “We always aim to be aggressive and look for opportunities to attack. When we have the ball, we move quickly and decisively, creating significant danger for our opponents.”
Reflecting on his goal, Yamal shared, “I followed the play and noticed a gap. When I saw the space, I took my chance and shot.
“Goals are essential for winning games, and I always strive to find the back of the net. The more goals we score, the better for us,” he explained.
Regarding his interaction with Nico Williams before the match, Yamal decided not to say much to avoid any kind of controversy.
“Nico and I are good friends,” that is all the Barcelona forward said.
This friendly connection was evident as the two players were seen chatting on the pitch prior to the game. After the match, Yamal’s family joined him on the field to celebrate both his goal and the team’s overall victory.
The presence of his loved ones added a personal touch to an already memorable evening. The win not only highlighted Yamal’s potential but also demonstrated Barcelona’s attacking prowess as they embark on their new season.
