Kyle Mueller leads Georgia Open tournament in Valdosta


VALDOSTA, GA — Saturday was moving day, but the top of the leaderboard stayed steady as the rest of field was shuffling around in the third round of the 73rd Golf Pro Payments Georgia Open presented by Visit Valdosta and A&R Communities. 30 of the 61 players shot rounds of even par or better as the scoring conditions were ideal this morning at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club. Mini tour professional Kyle Mueller of Athens extended his lead by three shots with his second straight 3-under par 69 and currently sits at 14-under par 202 for the tournament.

Standing on the 15th tee, Mueller held a one-shot lead over amateur Parker Claxton of Claxton, but both went in opposite directions over the next four holes. Mueller birdied holes 16 and 18 while Claxton bogeyed holes 15 and 17 vaulting Mueller to a five shot lead heading into the final round tomorrow.

Tied for third are mini tour professionals Nicolas Cassidy of Johns Creek and Harrison Shih of St. Simons Island at 8-under par 208. Rounding out the top five is a trio tied for fifth at 7-under par 209 including PGA of America Associate Landon Coontz of Evans, mini tour professional Alex Shead of Appling and amateur Brock Healy of Peachtree Corners.

61 players made the cut, which fell at 4-over par 148. Making the cut are 16 PGA Professionals, 24 amateurs and 21 touring professionals. Tee times for round 4 begin at 7:30 AM, with the leaders teeing off at 9:00 AM. An online leaderboard, featuring all competitors’ complete scorecards, will be available during the tournament at www.georgiapga.com. The final round will feature live, hole-by-hole scoring for all the competitors.
