Although the Hurricanes have done well recruiting high school prospects lately, they cannot win every recruiting battle.
For the second day in a row, a top prospect opted for another program over Miami. After five-star cornerback D.J. Pickett committed to LSU on Wednesday, defensive lineman Jarquez Carter picked Ohio State over Miami, UCF and Penn State, among others, on Thursday, announcing his commitment on 247Sports’ YouTube channel.
Carter, a four-star lineman from Newberry High, is rated a four-star prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings. He is listed as the No. 42 defensive lineman and No. 394 player in the class.
Carter, listed at 6-2 and 284 pounds, notched 67 tackles with 37 tackles for loss and nine sacks for the small school near Gainesville.
After missing out on Carter, the Hurricanes have one defensive lineman in the 2025 class: four-star edge rusher Herber Scroggins. UM still has several targets on the board, including five-star Iose Epenesa and three-star Walter Mathis.
