The Purdue football team is coming off a 4-8 season and hopes to prove others wrong.
Coming into the year, Purdue was given a consensus last-place Big Ten ranking from most major lists, including the USA TODAY Network preseason poll. Head coach Ryan Walters said the team has ‘a large chip’ on its shoulder because of it.
Walters enters his second season after a stint as the defensive coordinator at Illinois. Hudson Card returns as the Boilermakers’ starting quarterback after transferring to Purdue from Texas. Card threw for 2,387 yards, 15 touchdowns and 8 interceptions in 2023. He also ran for 203 yards and 5 touchdowns.
This year the Big Ten welcomes new members UCLA, USC, Washington and Oregon. Purdue will play Oregon on Friday, Oct. 18 at home in a primetime matchup on FOX.
