Jul. 22—The Madison Central boys golf team opened the 2024 season with a dominating performance on Monday at the Johnson Central Invitational.
The Indians — the two-time defending state champs — shot a -14, 274, and beat out Lexington Christian Academy by 34 strokes. Hazard (312) took third place.
Central had six golfers compete in the event and they combined for 24 birdies and two eagles.
The tournament was held at StoneCrest Golf Course in Prestonsburg.
Central’s Brayden Carlisle tied for first place after shooting a -8, 64. He fell to Cam Roberts of Pikeville in the first hole of a playoff.
Carlisle had seven birdies — including five in a six-hole stretch on the front nine (No. 2, 3, 4, 6 & 7) and one eagle, with just one bogey.
Radney Bales took third place with a -4, 68. He had six birdies (No. 3, 4, 5, 7, 12 and 14).
Central’s Seth Barker and Tucker Jones both shot -1, 71, and tied for fourth. Jones had four birdies (No. 6, 7, 9 and 12), while Barker birdied No. 9, 12 and 18, while salso coming up with an eagle on No. 14.
Reece Keaton, playing as an individual, shot a +3, 75, and tied for ninth.
Boo Crawley shot a +5, 77, and tied for 16th.
Central is set to return to action Wednesday at the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association Invitational at Lakeside Golf Course in Lexington.
