Jul. 9—PIERRE, S.D. — A host of Mitchell-area golfers took to Hillsview Golf Course on Monday.
Competing in the South Dakota Golf Association’s Sanford Series event, Chamberlain’s Dakota Munger finished in third place in the boys’ competition, shooting a 1-under 71 around Hillsview’s par-72 layout. Pierre’s Nick Bothun took home the victory, posting a 4-under 68.
Mitchell’s Asher Dannenbring came home in 12th place, shooting a 3-over 75. Everett Morrison (76) finished in 16th, and Carter McCormick (77) came in 20th. Winner’s Ryder Halligan shot a round of 80 to finish in 33rd.
In the girls event, Mitchell’s Allison Meyerink finished in third after firing a round of 3-over 75 to lead area golfers. Aberdeen’s Olivia Braun won the competition after posting a round of 1-over 73.
Mitchell’s Maddie Childs shot a round of 77 en route to a fifth-place finish, Ava Eliason shot an 84 to finish in 12th, and Mia Larson came home in 16th place after a round of 87.
In Monday’s SDGA Junior Tour stop at Prairie Winds Golf Club in Watertown, Mitchell’s Marshall Widstrom shot a 4-over 76 to finish in third place in the boys age 16-18 division. Elk Point’s Carter Langle posted a 1-over 73 to win the division.
The next Sanford Series event is a 36-hole competition, scheduled to begin on Monday, June 15, at the Golf Club at Red Rock and Meadowbrook Golf Course in Rapid City.
