To put it simply, 2024 is the year of Scottie Scheffler. This year alone, the former Texas Longhorn golfer has won six PGA Tour events, his second Master’s green jacket, earned just shy of $30 million in prize money, and became a first-time father.
As if all of that was not enough, he is now an Olympic gold medalist after winning the 2024 Paris Games. Scheffler entered the day a little outside of contention but was locked in as he shot a course-tying record of 62 in the final round. He was ice cold down the back nine and birdied six of nine to shoot a 29 and claim the United States another gold medal.
Scheffler has completely pulled away from the rest of the golfing world and is the clear-cut No. 1. I also don’t think it is hyperbolic to say that Scheffler is on a trajectory only seen by the likes of Tiger Woods.
The University of Texas has won 10 medals at the Paris Olympics, which would be tied for 12th place in the overall medal count if UT were its own country.
