Five Jackson State football players make preseason All-SWAC for 2024 season

Jackson State football coach T.C. Taylor had five players named to the 2024 preseason All-Southwestern Conference team on SWAC Media Day Tuesday.

That is a big difference from Taylor’s first season when one player was named to the team.

Jackson State offensive lineman Evan Henry was selected to the first team along with wide receiver Fabian McCray and punter Matt Noll.

JSU had two players selected to the second team in defensive lineman Jeremiah Williams and defensive back Esaias Guthrie.

The team was selected by SWAC coaches and sports information directors.

JSU went 7-4 in 2023, with the lone preseason selection being tight end D.J. Stevens.

Henry, who is a 6-foot-4, 324-pound center, has made All-SWAC the last two seasons. His game was enhanced by moving from guard to center last season.

Noll, a senior, led the SWAC in punting with a 44.3 average in 2023. McCray is a 6-2, 192-pound receiver, who had 41 catches for 584 yards and four touchdowns last season for JSU.

Williams, a junior, is a 6-3, 285-pound lineman who had 45 tackles and three sacks in 2023.

Guthrie, a 6-1, 183-pound safety, returns to a defensive back group that led the SWAC in interceptions with 17.
