The 2024 U.S. Junior Amateur Golf Championship began on July 22 in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, with some local high school seniors among the competitors.

Wyoming senior Finley Bartlett and Elder senior Cayse Morgan qualified for the amateur championship at Oakland Hills Country Club with Morgan qualifying into the tournament’s round of 64 on Wednesday.

Morgan finished a pair of stroke play rounds with a two-over-par day, finishing tied for 25th and making the cut of 64. Bartlett missed the cut to the round of 64 after finishing six-over-par.

In Wednesday’s round of 64, Morgan drew the 31st seed and will compete against No. 34 Chase Hughes of Oklahoma City in match play. A victory for Morgan would put him in the round of 32 on Thursday against the winner of No. 2 Tyler Watts of Huntsville, Alabama, or No. 63 Ieuan Jones of Wales.

Morgan was the Greater Catholic League South’s Golfer of the Year last season while winning sectional and district titles before placing third overall at the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division I state tournament.

Bartlett was the Cincinnati Hills League Golfer of the Year and won both the sectional and district championships before winning the individual Division II state championship.
