A year after finishing second in the tournament, Conrad Weiser’s Alex Golembiewski found redemption Wednesday at the 2024 Berks County Golf Association Junior Amateur Championship.
Golembiewski, a rising junior, shot an 11-over 81 to defeat Cameron Peffel, an All-Berks sophomore from Fleetwood, by one stroke at Blackwood Golf Course.
Rounding out the competition, Gov. Mifflin senior Gavin Bereschak finished third with a 16-over 86 and Chase Mitstifer, a Wilson junior, was fourth with an 18-over 88.
Golembiewski made five bogeys on the front nine for a 5-over 40, before making four bogeys and one double bogey on the back nine.
Peffel sank one of only two birdies made by the field on the 499-yard, par 5 17th before completing his round with a bogey on the 414-yard, par 4 18th. Golembiewski also made bogey on 18.
Peffel shot a 7-over 42 with three bogeys and two double bogeys on the front nine. He made six bogeys as well as the birdie on the back nine.
Mitstifer made a birdie on the 437-yard, par-4 14th — the only other competitor to complete a hole under par.
Daniel Boone junior and reigning Berks boys Golfer of the Year, Chase Yenser, who won last year’s tournament, did not compete. The tournament was open to players ages 14-18.
Next on the BCGA schedule is the Senior Partners Championship on July 20-21 at Berkleigh CC. Brock Kovach and Luke Fagley won last year’s championship with an 8-under 132 at Moselem Springs G.C.
