Cardiff City are on the brink of making former Queens Park Rangers winger Chris Willock their first summer signing.

The 26-year-old’s departure on a free transfer is expected to be confirmed on Thursday, BBC Sport Wales has learned.

Cardiff have reportedly beaten off interest from a number of other clubs to draft in the former Arsenal youth player.

London-born Willock, who represented England from under-16 level to the under-20s, had three years in Portugal playing for Benfica.

He also had loans spells with Huddersfield Town and West Bromwich Albion before signing for Queens Park Rangers in 2020 in a three year deal reputedly worth £750,000.

Willock, who can operate on both flanks, made 140 appearances for QPR scoring 20 Championship goals.

His brother Joe is a midfielder with Premier League side Newcastle United, while his other brother Matt was on the books of Salford until 2022 and represented the Montserrat national team.

Cardiff have been keen to add to their attacking resources, particularly in the wide area.

The club are hopeful of other new recruits before they head off to their training camp in Austria later this month.
