Capehart returned to Clemson because the ‘coaching staff is the best in the country’

Clemson football has a ridiculous amount of talent on the defensive line, meaning some players have to wait longer than others for their time to shine for the Tigers.

One of those players, is defensive tackle DeMonte Capehart. The young defensive tackle had a great season for the Tigers in 2023, recording 16 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, a sack, a pass breakup, and a forced fumble in 179 snaps. The key is the snap count, which was still low for the former 4-star recruit.

Instead of leaving in the transfer portal, the fifth-year senior waited for his moment, and this year is his time to shine. Part of the reason he stayed was the talent of this coaching staff. Capehart shared why he returned to Clemson on Friday after practice.

“My coaching staff is the best in the country,” Capehart said. “So I really wasn’t ever thinking about (transferring). I just have full faith in my staff. They’re just the best in the country and I have full faith and belief in them. So I am going to trust them until the end. My coaches are on me all the time about little small details. You got to want to be better and you got to take the small things serious. That’s how you get better.”

Capehart is ready for his moment and patience has allowed him to prepare for this moment. He will be a focal point of the defensive line with Woods playing on the edge.

“We talk about passing the torch,” Capehart said. “What they laid the foundation for, we just got to pick up and keep on with it. No drop off. We know what is expected.”

Expectations are a big year.
