‘Born winner’ Love pens City extension

Midfielder Jo Love has signed a one-year contract extension with Glasgow City.

Love, 38, first arrived at the club back in 2011 and established herself as a key member of City’s hugely successful squad, winning 11 SWPL titles, six Women’s Scottish Cups and four SWPL Cups.

Still Scotland’s most capped outfield player, she featured in numerous Women’s Champions League campaigns.

“It was an easy decision at the end of the day,” Love said.

“I had shown an interest in wanting to stay at Glasgow City and they’ve been more than willing to extend my contract.

“I wanted to be surrounded by the right people and here is the exact place for that.

“The fact that we play good football and aspire to be serial winners is important but first and foremost it’s about what the club believes in and they believe in me as well.

“I’ve got a deep rooted association with the city that I’m looking forward to continuing.”

Head coach Leanne Ross added: “Jo’s contract extension is great news.

“Her record at the club more than speaks for itself but probably doesn’t quite do justice to the impact she has made both on and off the pitch.

“To have someone with her expertise and leadership on the pitch and in our dressing room is huge, she is a born winner and her competitive mentality is infectious amongst the group.”
