Deion Sanders just added another impactful player to Colorado football’s 2025 recruiting class.

Quanell X Farrakhan Jr. committed to the Buffaloes on Saturday over offers from Alabama, Nebraska, Texas A&M, UCLA and others. The consensus four-star prospect is a top-40 receiver in the nation, according to both On3 and 247Sports.

On March 31, Farrakhan Jr. released a top three of Alabama, Nebraska and Texas A&M, but that was before Sanders and Colorado got involved.

The blue-chip receiver visited Boulder in late June alongside USC quarterback commit Julian Lewis, four-star offensive lineman Chauncey Gooden and others. Gooden committed to the Buffs the day after their June 21-23 visit ended, and Farrakhan Jr. followed suit this weekend.

“I loved it in Colorado,” Farrakhan Jr. told On3’s Steve Wiltfong following his official visit to Boulder. “They made me feel like I was at home and I believe that they could get me to the next level.”

Farrakhan Jr. had an excellent junior season at The Woodlands (Texas) High School where he caught 52 passes for 820 yards and 12 touchdowns. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound playmaker also added five rushing scores and a pair of return touchdowns.

“Advanced route runner with strong production against Texas 6A competition in Houston metro,” 247Sports scouting analyst Gabe Brooks said of Farrakhan Jr. on July 11. “Displays impressive route snap and late-separating ability. Consistent hands catcher who’s spatially aware of defenders and the boundary and flashes body control acumen in the air.

“Flashes some speed-changing nuance that enhances route-running ability and run-after-catch effectiveness, which also derives in part from sneaky wiry strength and contact balance. Still developing fluidity and suddenness and unlocking top-end gear in the open field, but represents a bonafide high-major receiver prospect who could become an impact player with pro potential in the long run.”

Farrakhan Jr. transferred to North Shore (Houston) High School in the spring for his senior season, but his future is in Colorado.

“I’m going to be real disciplined, on and off the field,” Farrakhan Jr. told On3’s Josh Newberg moments after his commitment. “You don’t have to worry about the off-field issues. I’m going to always respect my last name and I’m going to always represent that last name. I’m going to always be respectful to everybody, to my religion, to the players, to the coaches.

“You’re getting a respectful player but you’re also getting a dog. Like coach Sanders says, he wants dogs so I’m a dog. That’s what I’m going to be.”

The Buffs, including Farrakhan Jr., now have six commits for the 2025 class: linebacker Mantrez Walker, cornerback Alex Graham, tight end Corbin Laisure, offensive tackle Jay Gardenhire and Gooden.
