Finish position: 13th
Overview:
Despite a terrible start to the campaign and three head coaches, Sint Truiden remained in the Pro League for the upcoming season. At times, the side played like one that was far better than a bottom four finish, but it was their inconsistency and a few dropped points that ultimately cost them. However, they were certainly an entertaining team to watch for the second season in a row.
Player of the Season: Adriano Bertaccini
The 24-year-old Bertaccini was on fire last season. The striker, who joined from RFC Liege in January 2023, scored an impressive 21 goals in 36 games to lead the side and finish joint top scorer in the Pro League with Genk’s Tolu Arokodare. Bertaccini is likely to be off this summer, either abroad or to another Belgian side.
Young Player of the Season: Rein Van Helden
As opposed to the 2023/2024 season, Sint Truiden did not have as many young players coming through to the first team this season, given that the top talents had been poached by Genk. Rein Van Helden was the pick of those who did get playing time. The 22-year-old central defender played 35 games this past season, helping himself to one goal as well. He was very much involved in the sides build up play, averaging more touches than 82% of the leagues central defenders.
Summer needs:
Building a side for Wouter Vrancken that he can have success with. The job feels more suited to Vrancken after struggling with some of the bigger sides in the league. Replacing Bertaccini if he departs will be crucial, either through internal growth of Andres Ferrari after his permanent move or via the transfer market.
