Amelia Cobb of Daytona Beach stayed the course to win the First Coast Women’s Amateur


Amelia Cobb’s streak of bogey-free holes came to a close early in her third round in the Brooks Rehabilitation First Coast Women’s Amateur on Wednesday.

She bounced back with three quick birdies and the rest of the day was never in doubt.

Cobb, a Dayton Seabreeze graduate and incoming Florida Atlantic freshman, shot 74 at the Plantation at Ponte Vedra Beach and won by three shots over Sloane Siebert of Keystone Heights (73) at 3-over-par 219.

First Coast Women’s Amateur leaderboard

Siebert, a senior at Flagler College, fell out of contention with a front-nine 40 but bounced back with birdies at Nos. 10, 11, 13 and 16 to secure second place. Kaitlyn Washburn of Scituate, Mass., and a University of North Florida senior (76) and Kate Bibby of St. Augustine (76), a Missouri senior tied for third at 9-over and Violet Robbins of Fairfield, Conn., (78), who will enter Rollins in the fall, was fifth at 10-over.

Cobb made hit all 18 greens and made 18 pars in the second round to take the lead as the field battled a long, difficult course under daily heat advisories.

After making par on her first three holes in the third round, Coble’s streak of bogey-free holes reached 35. She then made her first bogey since the fourth hole of the first round, and added another at No. 5.

Cobb quickly righted the ship and birdied three of four holes, beginning at No. 7.

Suzi Spotleson rebounds to win Senior Division

Suzi Spotleson of Canton, Ohio parred her last four holes and Laura Coble of Augusta, Ga., bogeyed her last two to leave Spotleson (77) atop the Senior Division at 9-over 225 by two shots. Coble (75, a past Georgia Amateur champion, led by one shot at the turn.

Janice Wilson (79—162) won the Super Division Division by four shots over three-time division champion Mary Helen McElreath (86—166) and Tian Jones (86—164) won the Senior Field Division by eight shots over Mary Gallagher (90—172).
