The Portland Thorns have named Rob Gale as head coach after 12 games in the interim role.
The 46-year-old enjoyed a fast start to his tenure after replacing Mike Norris, who was moved into an executive role at the club. Under Gale, the Thorns won a record six-straight games to move back into the playoff spots after a slow start to the campaign.
“It’s exciting; it’s humbling when you find out,” Gale said. “Very honored. Proud moment for me and my family, the people who supported me, the people who make sacrifices all through your life for you to do what you do and be able to do a job that we love, and it’s a reward for that and all their hard work, just as much as it is for me.”
Gale’s first match as full-time head coach will be against Club Tijuana in the upcoming summer tournament with Liga MX Femenil clubs.
