The Knicks are using their veteran minimum exception to sign point guard Cameron Payne to a one-year deal worth $3.1 million, SNY’s NBA Insider Ian Begley has confirmed.
Begley notes that New York also showed interest in Washington Wizards guard Tyus Jones, but instead they decided to sign Payne, who brings a ton of valuable experience to the Big Apple.
The 29-year-old has appeared in 47 postseason games over the past four seasons with the 76ers and Suns, which is one of the things the Knicks valued about him.
Payne served as a tremendous deadline acquisition down the stretch for Philadelphia, averaging 9.3 points and 3.1 assists while shooting 38 percent from beyond the arc.
