Serhou Guirassy scored four goals to give Niko Kovac his first Bundesliga win as Borussia Dortmund boss as they thrashed Union Berlin.
The hosts led in the 25th minute when visiting defender Diogo Leite diverted Julian Ryerson’s shot into his own net.
Guirassy began his goalscoring run in the 40th minute when he headed home from Pascal Gross’ cross.
The former Brighton midfielder found Guirassy again in the 75th minute and the Guinea international forward slammed in his second at the near post.
Maximilian Beier unselfishly squared the ball for Guirassy to tap home and complete his hat-trick five minutes later.
With seven minutes left Gross’ pass from the left was headed in by Guirassy for his fourth of the night and 13th in the league this season.
It was the first four-goal haul by a Dortmund player in the Bundesliga since Erling Haaland did so in November 2020.
Beier’s header from another Gross cross sealed their dominant victory in the 89th minute.
Gross was the first player in exactly five years to provide four assists in a Bundesliga match following Christopher Nkunku’s feat.
Kovac was appointed Dortmund coach at the end of January after a difficult campaign for the club, who are 10th in the league on 32 points. They face French side Lille in the last 16 of the Champions League next month.
