Tiger Woods will play competitive golf for the first time since the death of his mother Tuesday in his TGL match.
Woods, whose mother, Kultida Woods, died Feb. 4, will lead his Jupiter Links team against New York Golf Club at 7 p.m. Tuesday at SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens.
Woods was scheduled to make his first PGA Tour start of the season this week at the Genesis Invitational, an event Woods hosts and whose foundation is the beneficiary.
But on Monday Woods, who lives on Jupiter Island, announced he was withdrawing from the event, which was relocated to Torrey Pines Golf Course outside San Diego this year because of the recent wildfires in the Los Angeles area.
“I planned to tee it up this week, but I’m just not ready,” Woods, the 15-time major champion, wrote in a statement released on social media. “I did my best to prepare, knowing it’s what my Mom would have wanted, but I’m still processing her loss. Thanks to everyone who has reached out. I hope to be at Torrey later in the week and appreciate the continued kindness since my Mom’s passing.”
Kultida Woods was seen at Tiger’s first TGL match one week prior to her death rooting on her son. The league honored her with a moment of silence the night she died at the match between Boston Common and Los Angeles Golf Club.
Kultida was 78.

Tiger to face Cameron Young in singles matches
The Jupiter’s lineup will include Woods, Kevin Kisner and Tom Kim against New York’s Cameron Young, Rickie Fowler and Matt Fitzpatrick.
Woods will face Young in singles. Woods has yet to win a hole playing singles, have lost two and tied two.
Jupiter has split two matches, losing to Los Angeles 12-1 and defeating Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common 4-3 in overtime.
New York is looking for its first victory after losses to The Bay and Atlanta. New York has won just two holes.
The single match Tuesday will follow a Presidents’ Day tripleheader Monday starting at 1 p.m. Atlanta and The Bay each will play twice with Los Angeles and Boston also on the Monday schedule.
TGL, the tech-infused indoor golf league, was created by Woods and McIlroy.
