The PGA Tour just concluded two straight weeks of competition on the Hawaiian islands.
Now it’s the PGA Tour Champions turn to kick off 2025 in paradise.
The season-opening Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai starts Thursday on the Island of Hawaii. The three-day, 54-hole stroke play event features a 42-player field at Hualalai Golf Course.
Steve Alker is the defending champion. He’s one of eight past champs teeing it up this week. Also playing: three-time winners Bernhard Langer (2009, 2014, 2017) and Miguel Angel Jiménez (2015, 2020, 2022) as well as Steve Stricker (2023), Darren Clarke (2021), Tom Lehman (2019), Jerry Kelly (2018) and Fred Funk (2008).
Langer will be playing in his 18th event at Hualalai. He won the 2024 season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship to keep his streak alive of winning at least one tournament for every year since 2007 when he joined the senior circuit.
Three players making Hualalai debuts in 2025
Ricardo Gonzalez, Tim O’Neal and Y.E. Yang are heading to the Champions tour season opener for the first time, as the trio all won on the tour for the first time in 2024. The Mitsubishi is for tournament winners from the previous season.
All three rounds of the 2025 Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai will be televised live on Golf Channel, Jan. 16-18.
