Everett Morrison posts strong finish for Mitchell boys golf to start season


Aug. 20—SIOUX FALLS — Everett Morrison started his season strong for Mitchell High School boys golf on Tuesday.

Morrison carded a two-day score of 152 to finish in 19th place at the season-opening Warrior/Lynx Invite, while the Kernels posted a team score of 638 to finish in eighth place. The event was hosted at Brandon Golf Course and Willow Run Golf Course, and featured 17 Class AA schools and 102 total participants.

Morrison opened with a 2-over 73 at Brandon Golf Course on Monday, carding an eagle on the par-4 ninth hole. He fired a 79 at Willow Run on Tuesday, finishing with seven total birdies across the two rounds.

Other Kernel performances include Asher Dannenbring’s 28th place effort, shooting a 3-over 73 in his second round on Tuesday to finish with a 157. Marshall Widstrom was 48th with a 163, and Carter McCormick finished in 63rd, shooting a 168. Dawson Adam posted a score of 182 to finish in 84th, and Sam Titze (182) came in 87th.

Harrisburg’s Charlie Swift won individual honors, finishing with a cumulative score of 140 to beat Brandon Valley’s Carter Peterson by two strokes. Swift shot a 3-under 68 against Brandon’s par-71 layout, before firing a 2-over 72 against Willow Run’s par-70 layout.

Watertown’s Kaden Rylance finished in third place with a 143, posting the low round of 2-under 68 on Tuesday. Harrisburg’s Riley Christensen (143) and Watertown’s Ty Lenards (146) completed the individual top-five.

In the team standings, Watertown posted a two-day score of 586 to secure the win, finishing five strokes ahead of runner-up Harrisburg (591). Co-hosts Brandon Valley (598) finished in third, followed by Pierre (598) in fourth, and Sioux Falls Jefferson (614) in fifth.

Mitchell returns to the course for the Pierre Invitational, beginning at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at Hillsview Golf Course.
