Villarreal have completed the signing of Manchester United defender Willy Kambwala.
The LaLiga club have agreed a fee of £9.9 million with United, which is made up of £4.7m in an up-front payment and £5.2m in add-ons. The deal also includes a buyback clause and a sizeable share of any sell-on fee.
Kambwala leaves United four years after joining the academy as a 15-year-old from Sochaux.
He made his first team debut last season in a 2-0 loss at West Ham, and went onto make 10 appearances in total, largely due to the injury issues in United’s backline.
Erik ten Hag appears intent on upgrading his defensive options this summer, with Matthijs de Ligt, Jarrad Branthwaite and Lenny Yoro all heavily linked with moves to Old Trafford.
That, coupled with Johnny Evans signing a new one-year deal at the club, was likely to see Kambwala drop down the pecking order, and he has now been allowed to leave.
