New reports on Wednesday confirmed that the New York Red Bulls’ high-profile move for Jean-Philippe Gbamin is off the table.
According to journalists Joe Pantorno and Tom Bogert, the former Everton midfielder will not switch to MLS after failing his medical.
The update arrives after the club and player had reportedly finalized a deal at the end of July.
Gbamin, an Ivory Coast international, is a free agent after freak injuries cut his time at Everton short.
He has had a series of loan spells, the last of which was with USL Dunkerque, where he registered two goals in 21 games.
With the failed move for Gbamin, NYRB are still in the market for a midfielder following the departure of Frankie Amaya to Mexican side Toluca.
The club currently sit fourth in the Eastern Conference but suffered an early elimination from the Leagues Cup.
