Everton have confirmed the signing of Republic of Ireland defender Jake O’Brien in a deal worth €20m (£16.8m).
The 23-year-old defender only moved to Ligue 1 from Crystal Palace 12 months ago, but impressed during his time at the Groupama Stadium.
O’Brien made 27 appearances in the French top flight, scoring four times as he helped Lyon to a sixth placed finish.
Now, he is on the move once more, with the defender having agreed a five-year deal at Goodison Park.
Though right footed, O’Brien is able to play on either side of defence and will bolster a backline that has looked thin in recent seasons beyond first choice pair Jarrad Branthwaite and James Tarkowski.
