Bayern Munich defender Hiroki Itō suffered a broken foot in today’s 1-1 draw with FC Düren.
The Japanese international was substituted in the first-half of the pre-season friendly, and now the worst fears have been realised and confirmed by sporting director Max Eberl.
Speaking after the game, Eberl said: “Yes, his foot is broken. He will be out for a long time”.
Itō was playing in just his second game for his new club, having joined from Bundesliga rivals Stuttgart in June.
Bayern have been heavily linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah, and their need for another centre-back has now only grown with the loss of Itō.
