Atalanta striker Gianluca Scmacca is set to miss the majority of the campaign after tearing his cruciate ligament during pre-season.
The Italy international was injured during his side’s friendly with Parma on Sunday and subsequent tests have confirmed an ACL tear in his left knee.
Atalanta’s new No. 9, who took over that jersey this summer following Luis Muriel’s exit, damaged his knee while attempting to control the ball in the penalty area and immediately requested attention.
Early indications following medical examinations are that Scamacca will now be out of action for six to seven months.
Among the key fixtures he will miss are La Dea’s UEFA Super Cup meeting with Real Madrid in 10 days, the entirety of their Champions League league phase and the Supercoppa Italiana semi-final against Inter in early January.
