Nashville’s Leagues Cup campaign came to an end at the hands of the New England Revolution, seeing the Leagues Cup group stage come to an end.
Scorers: Wood 3′ ; Surridge 45+2′
The ominous tone was set for Nashville in the opening five minutes when veteran striker Bobby Wood snatched the lead for the hosts, though Sam Surridge pulled one back for the visitors just before the break.
Surridge’s goal would be merely consolation in the grand scheme of things however, as Nashville needed to win the game buy multiple goals in regular time in order to sneak into the knockout rounds.
While the affair went to penalty-kicks, New England’s win in the shootout did not impact the group standings. As a result, Mazatlán will join the Revolution in the knockout rounds.
With the group stage all wrapped up the knockout bracket is all solidified and the 32 qualified teams will look ahead towards whats to come.
The knockout rounds begin Wednesday evening as LAFC will take on Austin, while Vancouver faces off with Pumas.
